SOLDIERS AND PATRONS, GHOSTS HAUNT UPSTAIRS
In the 1850`s a doctor and his wife lived in The Buttery with their son, who was physically handicapped. Being a doctor and of high esteem, supposedly the doctor was embarrassed by his son`s state that he decided to murder the boy. As he was in the act of suffocating his son, his wife walked in and caught the doctor in the act. Panicked by
his wife, he pushed the tray his wife was carrying and losing her balance, she fell backwards down the steep stairs dying from physical trauma. The doctor was able to write death certificates for both and hide his murders. A half of century later, ironically it would be the ghost of the doctor who is believed the one to haunt The Buttery!
There are other stories and legends circulating that the ghosts of a brother and sister, Philip and Kate haunt The Buttery. Interestingly, in the early 1980`s an exorcism was performed to release the spirits. Some believed that Kate moved on but not Philip.
