DECEW FALLS IN THOROLD

DeCew Falls itself is rich in history. The main falls is seventy-two feet high, cascading into an amazing bowl-shaped basin. The roar of the falls is trapped within the amphitheater-like setting. At the top of the falls is an old stone mill. It was built in 1872 for blacksmithing and carpentry. It is in excellent shape as it was rebuilt after being destroyed in a fire in 1895. DeCew Falls is believed to have orbs and apparitions perhaps haunting the old mine shaft below it half
way down.

The mine shaft at the base of DeCew Falls was supposedly operational through the 1800’s. The mine was used as a water tunnel by the DeCew Power Company back in the day to discharge water from the turbines.
